Discovery Story
This piece is a fascinating example of how numismatic treasures know no borders. Found in daily circulation in New York, this 1975 Canadian one-cent coin stands out due to a rare minting error that makes it unique among standard coins of its type.
Error Analysis (Cud Error)
The most striking feature of this coin is the "Cud Error" visible on the obverse (Queen's side). Just above the letters "ZAB" of ELIZABETH, there is a raised, solid blob of metal.
- Origin: This defect occurred at the Royal Canadian Mint when a piece of the die broke off at the rim, allowing metal to flow into the void during the striking process.
- Authenticity: The relief protrudes beyond the original design, confirming it is a genuine mint error and not post-mint damage.
